An abstract bowl by Marcello Fontani with a glaze in hues of lavender, grey and ochre. An experiment in volcanic, bubble glaze creating an oceanic crust.
Born in Florence, Fantoni was a multi disclipinary artist. He opened the Fantoni Ceramics Studio in 1936 dedicating his work to traditional italian ceramic techniques with a modernist slant. Described as a 'master of beauty', there are clear influences of Lucio Fontana running through his work.
His work is represented at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, The V&A in London, Museum of Modern Art of Tokyo and Kyoto and The National Museum of Bargello Florence, Italy.
