Pine Stools Rainer Daumiller
€400,00 EUR
Solid in construction, simple in form, and sculptural in expression. Pine wood stools designed by Rainer Daumiller and manufactured by Hirtshals Savvaerk, Denmark, 1960s.
Daumillier (Born 1939) was drawn to carpentry and natural materials from a young age. His love of pine was inspired by the fine growth lines of the wooden floor in his Mothers childhood home, that had become more pronounced after years of washing with soapy water. His approach of fashioning random pieces of wood into form following the natural instinct of his material was established by the teachings of the Austrian philosopher, social reformer, and architect Rudolf Steiner. After this intuitive training, he studied at the Artisan School’s (Kunstværkerhåndskolen) Furniture Department, Denmark. His graduation designs in pine were produced by Hirtshals Sawmill (Savværk) for almost 25 years and sold in stores worldwide including Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, Norway and Japan.
His choice of material was not just for aesthetic reasons, it demonstrated an early recognition of sustainability and the need help manage rainforest destruction by moving furniture design away from the years of teak and rosewood that had dominated. His designs in pine were a welcome change this.
