Malou Palmqvist Scattered Pieces
14 000 SEK
The work of Swedish artist, Malou Palmqvist represents the passage of time and the impermanence of the material world. She explores the structure of decay with interpretations of putrefaction, mould, erosion of stone and the ongoing mutation of nature itself.
Malou works with stoneware ceramic, plaster with natural pigments and layers of sand. She forms the clay into ergonomically inclined objects creating natural folds and gathers, pushing the material to a collapse and testing the limit of the clay. In the drying process, Malou works beautifully with supports using newspaper, sticks, carving tools and other pieces of clay to master and control the collapse. Colour and texture is an important part of the process, experimenting to find new surfaces and glazing effects and building layers to enhance the shape and give more depth to her sculptures.
The cylinder and sphere are reoccurring shapes in her work and are worked to create opposition to the organic fluid bases. Formed in stucco lustro, metal or painted wood and sometimes dripped in pewter or painted with silver leaf.
